Choosing Your Garden Sleepers

Choose sleepers to suit your project, preferred appearance and budget. Check the dimensions and product specification before ordering, especially where timber will touch soil or support a load.

Treated Timber Sleepers

Our range includes green-treated and brown-treated timber sleepers. Compare the available sizes and finishes in the products above. Confirm the treatment specification is suitable for the intended use; colour alone does not tell you the level of protection.

Oak Sleepers

Oak sleepers offer an alternative timber appearance for garden landscaping. Check the individual product details and ask our team about suitability for your proposed use.

Planning Your Sleeper Project

Sleepers can be used for raised beds, garden edging and other landscaping features. Before ordering, confirm:

  • The finished length, width and height of your project.
  • The sleeper dimensions and number of layers.
  • Whether sleepers will be laid flat or on edge.
  • Corner joints, cutting requirements and waste allowance.
  • Suitable fixings, supports and drainage arrangements.
  • The timber specification for any contact with soil.

For retaining walls or load-bearing features, have the support and fixing arrangements specified for the site and loads before buying materials.

Fixings and Cut-End Treatment

Choose exterior fixings suitable for the sleeper material and the connection being made. Browse our landscaping screws and confirm the required length and specification before ordering.

For preservative-treated sleepers, follow the supplier's instructions for treating freshly cut ends with a compatible end-grain preservative.
